Do I really need 8-12 cups a day?

Everyone has heard how that they need 8 to 10 cups of water a day, but there is no scientific evidence that everyone needs 8 cups of water per day according to Sparkpeople’s website.  According to their article, experts don’t even know how much water a person needs a day.
